The world turned upside down

Now rise smoke and ashes
I find and embrace the children

As dead as they are

I awake in the night
Not from nightmare but memory
Hugging my daughter's body

But the legs remain on the ground
Severed from the torso
The small body far too light

I bury the remains
Of my little one
Piece by piece
A horrid human puzzle

In my youth I dreamed
Of traveling the world
Seeing all the wonders in the flesh

The remains of that wish
A massacre for revenge
And destruction of all
